AUDIENCE: Any professional working in the child welfare system is encouraged to attend particularly Reintegration and Family Preservation Case Managers and Family Support Workers; Social Workers, Mental Health Professionals; Foster Home, Kinship, and Adoption Workers; DCF staff, CASAs, etc.
This training will provide participants the strategies and skills necessary to effectively identify domestic violence in child welfare cases, as well as how to apply appropriate interventions for families experiencing domestic violence. During this skills-based training, participants will be provided information and tools to identify, assess and document batterer dangerousness, and parenting capacity, as well as how to describe the impact of battering behavior on the relationship between protective parents and their children. Participants will be provided information on how to identify safety and protective actions that adult victims use to keep their children safe, as well as how to hold batterers accountable through interviewing, assessment, and documentation techniques. Case planning strategies that promote child and adult victim safety, as well as perpetrator accountability will also be provided. Each participant will be provided a copy of the Domestic Violence Manual for Child Welfare Professionals.
