This full day interactive training will provide participants the strategies and skills necessary to effectively address domestic violence while working with families through home visitation programs. During this advanced, skills-based institute, participants will learn about domestic violence and its effect on the health and safety of victims of domestic violence, including reproductive coercion and the impact of domestic violence on perinatal health outcomes. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about and practice building collaboration with domestic violence program advocates. Participants will gain an understanding of how batterers impact the lives of children, and will explore the protective actions of survivors as parents and ways to increase protective capacity. The training will provide participants best practice strategies for screening, referrals, and enhancing safety. Vicarious trauma and how to support staff will also be discussed.
Each participant will receive the Home Visitation Guidelines on Domestic Violence flip book.

Shelly brings to KCSDV eight years of experience working with survivors of domestic abuse and their children. At KCSDV, Shelly works with local domestic violence programs and home visitation programs on issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. Shelly has facilitated trainings on topics related to the dynamics of sexual and domestic violence and how children are impacted.
