Responsible to: Child and Youth Project Manager

Primary Responsibility:
Improve outcomes for children and youth exposed to domestic violence and teen dating violence by developing and implementing advocacy mentorship programs for youth exposed to domestic violence, and their non-abusing parents or caregivers, within five implementation sites across Kansas. Expand the statewide capacity of Kansas domestic violence advocacy programs to provide advocacy services to children and youth exposed to domestic violence and their non-abusing parents or caregivers. Work collaboratively to develop resources, training, and technical assistance as they relate to domestic violence and children. Provide training and technical assistance to KCSDV member programs, child welfare professionals, and ally organizations.

Specific Duties:

  • Research and become familiar with evidence- and trauma-informed service models for children and youth exposed to domestic violence and their non-abusing parents or caregivers
  • Become familiar with the policies, procedures, and practices of other agencies, government or otherwise, that impact victims of domestic violence and their children
  • Research and gather information used by statewide child and youth organizations in their respective training of staff and volunteers
  • Assist with a project Needs Assessment and Evaluation
  • Develop and implement guidelines and strategies for youth advocacy mentoring programs; and child and youth and parent/child advocacy programming
  • Coordinate with five domestic violence advocacy programs as implementation sites for youth advocacy mentoring programming
  • Develop resources and training materials for youth advocate mentors, domestic violence advocates, and mental health practitioners
  • Implement evaluation and data collection strategies specific to this project
  • Develop and provide training for implementation sites, domestic violence advocacy programs, and other child- and youth-focused professionals and agencies on improving outcomes for children and youth exposed to domestic violence
  • Assist with the development and dissemination of project information, reports, lessons learned, and implementation strategies
  • Provide technical assistance
  • Assist with other KCSDV duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed:
Previous experience working directly with children and youth exposed to domestic violence, and/or their non-abusing parents or caregivers. Ability to develop and implement new programming. Ability to develop materials and train on topics relevant to this position. Ability to work with statewide systems to positively impact outcomes for children and youth. Proven writing and speaking ability. Ability to work in a team environment and work collaboratively. Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to travel and have means of own transportation. Must be able to lift and carry 20-30 lbs.
