Why They Fight the Facts and What to Do About It: Learning How to Respond to Victim Blaming Arguments and Folks Who Just Don’t Get It
AUDIENCE: KCSDV member program advocates and staff only
Sponsored by:
Training Description:
Open and honest communication is key to effective systems advocacy. But, how do we communicate about sensitive topics without alienating people from the conversation?
As advocates and educators, we are up against myths, misinformation, negative attitudes, stereotypes, and victim blaming. Advocates and educators can only enact best practices when they understand their audience and their barriers, and work to change their often long-held beliefs.
This training will provide advocates with an overview of barriers to change, best practices for changing harmful attitudes, and how to have those hard conversations in a way that creates positive change for victims, survivors, and communities.
